Offsetting Emissions

Alongside our partner the Eden Reforestation Projects (and with your support) – we’re offsetting the emissions of every subscriber to Pay Our Planet Magazine.

With the Eden Projects we’ve been  Planting Mangrove trees in Madagascar. We’ve chosen to plant mangrove trees because studies show they sequester carbon at a rate of four times that of mature tropical forests – essentially making them one of the most effective trees in the world at sequestering carbon.

Preserving Ecosystems and Protecting Wildlife

The Madagascar project sites began in 2007. They restore ecologically devastated mangrove estuaries in the northwest of the country. Mangrove forests are essential ecosystems whose dense roots serve as an anchor for the soil and coastline preventing erosion and creating a barrier between harsh ocean systems and land. Over 90% of Madagascar’s original forest cover has been destroyed, displacing entire animal species and taking away the Malagasy’s ability to farm and live on the land. Furthermore, entire mangrove estuaries are gone, leaving the bare earth to wash away into the sea. This is why the tree planting we do in Madagascar is vital. The projects have planted over 298,767,411 trees in Madagascar so far.

Helping those in extreme poverty

By subscribing to Pay Our Planet magazine you’re also providing stable employment for local villages. These jobs help create new economies as the cash flow these jobs brings helps locals start new businesses and the trees help provide new food sources by attracting fish stocks or growing fruit.
